You can unsubscribe at any time.Thank you for subscribingWe have more newslettersShow meSee ourprivacy noticeBritish No.1 Andy Murray and his wife Kim have decided to name their daughter Sophia Olivia, according to reports.The baby was born on February 7, and weighed 8lb 10oz, and the couple have now settled on a name, according to the Times.A “close family friend” revealed the news, according to the paper, which is something of a surprise after much speculation that they would opt for a traditional Scottish name.The couple have yet to release any pictures of the newborn.Murray grandmother Shirley Erskine found out about the birth via text and revealed the new parents did not know the sex of the child before she was born.”Andy and Kim said from the outset that they didn want to know, so I assuming that they didn know and of course none of us knew, so it was nice to get a little surprise like that,” she told BBC Scotland.Ellen Murray, whose son Willie is Andy father, added last week: “Andy phoned yesterday and said, “Congratulations, you a great granny.”Murray left tennis fans around the world teary eyed with an emotional message to Kim after finishing runner up in the Australian Open last month.At the end of his speech after he was he was presented with his second place shield shield, he said: “And finally to my wife Kim, who I am sure is going to be watching back home.”You have been a legend the last two weeks and I will be on the next flight home.”Murray acknowledged that the trip to Australia had some at an emotional time for him and said: “To my team, sorry I didn’t get it done tonight, it’s been a tough few weeks for me away from the court, and I thank you all for your support.”It’s very, very tough for me right now but I do appreciate playing in front of all you people. Amazing atmosphere.”Murray will be aiming to be back in action for the French Open in May, the net Grand Slam event.”I’m really looking forward to the new baby, my first grandchild,” she told HELLO! .”When it happens I shall be an active granny. My mum Shirley was very involved with Jamie and Andy when they were growing up and I hope to be the same with my grandchild.”Scotland first minister Nicola Sturgeon congratulated the couple on Twitter: “Lovely news.
